It was a glorious Saturday for footy, and a big day for the Bombers with a card of seven home games at Gore Hill. In total 12 of our 13 teams took the field – with a long injury and unavailability list, we were unable to field a team in Mens Division Five this week.
Mens Premier Division maintained top spot on the ladder in a big local derby win over Manly at Gore Hill; while Womens Prems came from behind to share the points in a thrilling draw. In total, six of our teams took out wins, plus the draw.
We have a week off for the Rep weekend next week, in which North Shore players will be representing AFL Sydney. There are some catch-up games to be played at Macquarie Uni and St George; while Gore Hill takes a break.

MENS
Premier Division maintained top spot on the ladder with a 38-point win over Manly in the Battle of the Spit Bridge at Gore Hill Oval. The Bombers hit the ground running with five unanswered goals in the first quarter, and the Wolves never looked like coming back from there. Angus Loebel was superb up forward to finish with five goals; while Mitch Rogers and Cooper Donald again played key roles in another impressive North Shore display.
A seven-goal first quarter was the flying start Division One needed to ensure a comfortable 70-point win in the twilight slot at Gore Hill. Although the Bombers were missing targets after quarter time, the weight of possession ensured the lead kept growing and the Wolves never had any influence over the contest. Cam Taylor landed four goals; while Matt Folkes, Will Blackburn and Sudi Frase-Krause were everywhere around the ground in another strong Bomber performance.
Division Two travelled to Pioneers Park to take on Randwick City, but it wasn’t a great day for the Bombers as they were jumped at the start and went on to go down by 33 points. Christian Dennis kept the scoreboard ticking with six goals; while James Hunt and Sam Hynes also played solid games. But the Bombers, without several regular Div 2 players, struggled to string goals together and never looked like making up the early deficit.
It wasn’t a great day for Division Three. Playing Balmain at Rozelle for the second time this season, the Bombers were without several regulars in the Division Three side, and struggled to make an impact. The Bombers were held to two goals and went down to the top side by 124 points. Harry Milne, Nick Parker and James Weiling kept working hard; but it was one of those days when little was going right.
Division Four returned to the winning list in style with a 56-point win over Western Magic in the late game at Gore Hill. The Bombers hit the ground running, holding the Magic scoreless in the first quarter while working their way to a lead that ensured they would not be threatened for the rest of the evening. Ryan Heath spearheaded the charge with seven goals; while Hailey Vogrig and Tristan Hackett were in the thick of the action all night.
Under 19.5s Division One struggled to keep up against Manly at Gore Hill. After an even first quarter, the Bombers dropped behind; never by much, but struggled to cover the gap as the Wolves gradually drew ahead. In the end, the Bombers went down by 23 points. Jack Blazey, Rowan Cameron and Harrison Layet worked hard; but the Bpmbers never really looked likely to bridge the gap and take the game.
Under 19.5s Division Two returned to the winning list with a 30-point win over St George in the early game at Gore Hill. The Bombers scored the first four goals of the game, ensuring the Dragons would always be chasing; and from there the Bombers did enough to control the contest. Toby Lang, Reuben Swanepoel and Lachlan Club were superb in a morning where the Bombers always looked like taking the points.

WOMENS
A cracker of a Premier Division match at Gore Hill saw North Shore and Manly play out a thrilling draw. In a low-scoring game, the Bombers were only able to score one goal in the first thee quarters and trailed by 18 points at the last change. But the Bombers kept coming, scoring the only thee goals in the final quarter to level the scores with just a couple of minutes to spare. Izzy McLeay, Kara Selvarajah and Heidi de Saxe were superb; but when the final siren sounded, the two teams couldn’t be separated and the Bombers had played in their second draw for the season.
It was one-way traffic in Division One, as the Bombers dominated from start to finish to take out an easy 88-point win. Southern Power were unable to score until the dying minutes, as the Bombers kept the ball on their forward line for most of the contest. Caitlin Davis landed four goals for the Bombers; while Emma Greene, Lili Kablau and Charlotte Kearney picked up plenty of the ball to keep the Bombers on top and shut down the Power.
A strong second half got Division Two the points in their game against Randwick City at Pioneers Park. Just five points separated the two sides at the long break, but the Saints would not score a goal in the second half as the Bombers ran rampant, six unanswered goals getting the Bombers a 43-point win. Lydia Holt was in control up forward to finish with five goals; while Uma van Egmond-Jones and Maddy McLay were dominant around the ground in another successful Bomber team performance.
Division Three had a hard draw, playing Balmain away at Rozelle Parklands. Short on numbers against the top team, it was a tough experience for our inexperienced fourths, as they were unable to get into the contest. Ash O’Leary, Viv Leong and Bethany McArthur-Luu never stopped putting the effort in; but the Bombers didn’t have the firepower to be competitive.
It was a tough morning for Under 20s as they travelled to Rosedale Oval to take on South-West Sydney. Short on numbers and unable to make rotations, the Bombers led by a point at half time and again at three quarter time. But tired legs took their toll in the final quarter as the Bombers were pipped at the post to go down by just five points. Koena Galea, Avalon Tucker and Nina Bouvaret put up stiff resistance as the Bombers battled against the odds.
