It was one of those weekends, with a long injured and unavailability list making it a challenge to get our teams on the field. In the end we weren’t able to field a team for Womens Under 20s; but managed to play all our other games. Special thanks to those who filled in or doubled up to enable that to happen.
Both our Premier Division teams were successful on the road, taking on East Coast at Bruce Purser Reserve. Womens Division One and Under 19½ Division One also took the chocolates against the Eagles; while Mens Division Two got the points against Southern Power at Gore Hill.
This week we have keenly-anticipated local derbies against Manly; a replay of the Grand Final of the last two years for Mens Premier Division. It’s a big Saturday coming up at Gore Hill.

MENS
North Shore in Premier Division led all the way, but never got a massive lead against the struggling East Coast at Bruce Purser. The decisive break came in the third quarter, when the Bombers kicked five goals to one to get to a game-high 45 point lead. But the Eagles fought back in the final quarter to reduce the final margin to 21 points. Mitch Rogers, Jake Veale and Nick Brewer were best for the Bombers; on a day when they weren’t totally convincing but did enough to take the points.
Division One had a tough draw for a week when under-manned, being up against Camden at Fairfax. The Bombers stayed with the Cats for a half, and were within striking distance at the long break; but were unable to score a goal in the third quarter. Will Blackburn, Seb Krimmer and Charlie Silvester battled hard all afternoon, but it wasn’t our day.
Division Two had few concerns in getting past Southern Power by 60 points at Gore Hill. A five goal opening term ensured the Bombers would always be in front, and the Bombers gradually drew further ahead with each passing quarter. Harry Milne spearheaded the charge with four goals; while Cam Thomas and James Nettle played pivotal roles around the ground to keep the Bombers on top of the ladder.
Division Three’s winning streak came to an end when they went down to Manly by 13 points at Gore Hill. The game was a tight arm-wrestle for three quarters, with never more than a kick separating the two sides. But the Wolves got on top in the last quarter with three goals, while the Bombers were held to one. Harry Milne, Nick Parker and Hayden Ford were in the thick of the action all morning, but it wasn’t enough to take the points.
Division Four was well short of full strength for their game against Hawkesbury at Gore Hill. The Jets scored seven goals in the second term to leave the Bombers 52 points behind at the long break. The Bombers played better in the second half, but it was too much ground to make up. Lachlan Dowling, Matt Lee and Tristan Hackett battled hard against the odds, but the Bombers never looked like taking the points.
Gore Hill Oval hosted a rare Friday night game, with Division Five taking on Wollondilly. It wasn’t a great night for the Bombers, finding themselves behind on the scoreboard early and being held to two goals for the game. James Weiling, Lachie Quigley and Hugh Grieves kept the work-rate going all night; but it wasn’t enough to prevent a 68-point defeat.
Under 19.5s Division One returned from Bruce Purser with the points after taking out an eight-point win over East Coast. In a low-scoring game, the Bombers led by 10 points at the long break, only for the Eagles to take control with the only two goals of the third quarter to take the lead. But the Bombers regained the ascendancy in the final team, two goals to one being just enough to get over the line. Jack Blazey, Lucas McCartney and Harrison Layet were best as the Bombers did enough to return to the winning list.
Under 19.5s Division Two had a Friday night game at Mike Kenny Oval against Pennant Hills. It was a disappointing night for the Bombers as they were never able to get into the contest, held to two goals and going down by 60 points. Jame Martin-Jury, Leo Scanlon and Josh Dickman kept putting the effort in, but it was one of those nights when nothing was going right.

WOMENS
Premier Division moved into the top three, doing it in style with a 86-point win over East Coast at Bruce Purser. The Eagles scored an early goal, but would not land another for the day as the Bombers tightened up the game while keeping the scoreboard ticking over at their scoring end. Abbey Martin scored five goals; while Ella Daniel, Georgina Maher and Sophie Kavanagh played key roles in an impressive display of Bombers football.
It was one-way traffic for Division One, who had few worries in recording a 104-point win over East Coast at Bruce Purser Reserve. The Eagles were held to a single point for the game as the Bombers ran rampant, six goals in the second and five in the third a devastating burst for which the Eagles had no answers. Ellie Shefts landed five goals; while Marlee Barnet-Hepples, Emma Greene and Georgie McArdle were ball magnets for the whole game.
Conditions weren’t easy for Division Two, as the heavens had opened at Gipps Road Oval. The game was a defensive slog, with each team holding the others to two goals in the first half and neither team kicked a goal after half time. But it would be a heart-breaker for the Bombers, as the final siren left them four points short. Goal-scorers and best players were not available at the time of writing.
It wasn’t Division Three’s day in their game against Hawkesbury. Down on numbers and without rotations, they were unable to score against the Jets, going down by 88 points. Hannah Lewis, Sarah McInnes and Hannah Maher battled hard all afternoon, but the Bombers didn’t have the firepower to compete on this occasion.
