It had been a wet week in Sydney, but Saturday dawned in sunshine, albeit a bit on the cold side. But all was in readiness for another big weekend of footy.

Both our Premier Division teams travelled to Trumper Park to play UTS; and both suffered a scare but managed to break through and get the win.

All 14 of our teams were fixtured to play. Mens Division Four and Womens Under 20s took out wins without firing a shot when their opponents forfeited. In a successful weekend for North Shore, 12 out of 14 teams took out the chocolates.

Premier Division had a scare against UTS at Trumper Park, but in the end managed to get over the line. Leading by 14 points at the long break, the Bombers were on the wrong side of a five goals to one third quarter to trail by nine points at the last change. But three unanswered goals in the last term was enough to get over the line. Max Toohey, Finn Chalmers and Max Thomas played key roles to get the win. You’re not going to dominate every week, but even when below their best, quality sides will still find a way to win.

Division One were away to Camden at Fairfax Reserve. It was tight in the first quarter, but Camden kicked away in the second, setting up a break the Bombers were never able to make up. Lachlan Gedge, Charlie Silvester and Michael Goode were prominent ball-winners, but it wasn’t enough to get the Bombers over the line. They remain on top only on percentage; and it’s going to be extremely tight.

Division Two returned to the winning list with a 31-point win over South-West Sydney at Rosedale Oval. The Bombers made every post a winner in the first quarter and by half time they were 25 points to the good, enough of a buffer to shut the Blues out of the contest. Tyson McCallum landed four goals; while James Hunt, James Dallaway and Harry Mainsbridge made important contributions to get the win for the Bombers.

It was a heart-breaker for Division Three against Balmain at Mahoney Park. It was close all day, but the Tigers led at every change. The lead see-sawed in the last quarter, but unfortunately the Bombers were just two points short when the final siren sounded. Michael Read, Tyson McCallum and Liam Blanch battled tirelessly, but the under-manned Bombers fell so agonisingly short.

Division Five North-West was no contest, as the Bombers dominated from start to finish to record a 125-point win over Pennant Hills at Gore Hill. A six goal opening quarter set the tone for the afternoon, and the Bombers were in complete control for the entire game. Joe Bissett and Gus Stone-Heash each landed four goals; while Lachlan Dowling and Charles Simpson were unstoppable around the ground.

Division Five City-South had a tight contest against UNSW-ES at Gore Hill. The Bombers had a good first half to lead by 25 points at the long break, but the Bulldogs brought the margin back to just nine points at three quarter time. But that was as close as they could get, with the Bombers landing two goals to one in the final term to get the job done. Liam Fardy, Cameron Honey and Alex Heintze played solid games to get the Bombers home.

Under 19.5s Division One were far too strong for UTS at Trumper Park, running away to an easy 108-point win. The Bats were unable to score a goal after quarter time, while the Bombers scored 14 in the last three quarters. Sam Jackson up forward was unstoppable, adding another seven goals to his already impressive season tally; while Charlie Stephens, Lewis Whiley and Sam Clancy picked up myriad possessions around the ground.

A Friday night game at Sydney Uni No 1 saw Under 19.5s Division Two strengthen their hold on the minor premiership with a 19-point win over Sydney Uni. A quick three-goal burst in the second quarter was decisive, setting up a handy half-time lead and ended up being the difference between the two sides. Sam Jackson landed four goals; while BJ Kerr, Tony Loebel and Rowan Cameron were solid all night for the Bombers.

WOMENS

It was a thriller for Premier Division as they came from behind to knock off UTS by two points at Trumper Park. The Bats led by eight points at the long break; but the Bombers came storming back in the third quarter to land four goals and take the lead. One goal apiece in the last quarter and the Bats kept coming; but the Bombers showed strength and resolute patience to hold them out. Ella Daniel, Heidi de Saxe and Lucy Yates were pivotal in helping the Bombers get over the line in a close contest.

Division One extended their winning streak to four in a row when they held Camden goal-less for a 41-point win at Fairfax Reserve. Hannah Collins, Lauren O’Sullivan and Lily Kablau were in the thick of the action for the Bombers as they turned on another impressive performance, tightening the screws and never giving the Cats any opportunity to get back into the contest.

Another strong performance by Division Two got them to a 37-point win over UNSW-ES at Gore Hill. The Bombers were never seriously threatened; with Alana Dalgleish, Ellie Shefts and Caitlin Wilson featuring prominently in an impressive all-round performance where the Bombers won every quarter and denied the Bulldogs any possibility of building any momentum.

Division Three broke through for their second win of the season in an absolute thriller in the early game at Gore Hill. In a low-scoring affair, the Bombers took the lead in the second quarter to hold a two-point advantage at the long break. Neither team scored in the third quarter, with the Bombers breaking the deadlock with a behind in the final minutes. Megan Soutter, Lucy Thomson and Hannah Maher were standouts as the Bombers defended grimly for a worthy win.
