After the previous week was abandoned, we returned to action on Saturday with all 14 of our teams in action.

A great day for our Mens open-age teams, with all seven of them emerging with the chocolates. Under 19.5s Division Two and Womens Under 20s also took the points.

MENS

A twilight encounter at Sydney Uni No 1 saw our Seniors win their fifth game on the trot with a 25-point win. The Students led by a kick at the first change, but the Bombers got on top with a run of five goals to one in the second term and were never threatened from there. Matt Buskariol landed four goals; while Cooper Donald, Nick Pavlou and Ned Campbell were prolific contributors around the ground.

Reserves had an early start at Sydney Uni No 1, but would repeat the result from last year’s Grand Final when they prevailed by 21 points. There wasn’t much in it in the first half, but a run of four goals to one in the third term put the game out of the Students’ reach. Tom Gillis spearheaded the charge with four goals; while Harry Edwards, Max Toohey and Sam Austin were best around the ground.

Division Two got back on the winning list with a 17-point win at Sydney Uni No 1. A four-goal burst in the second quarter was enough to set up a lead that the Students were unable to make up. Matt Gill, Taylor Zeeman and Harry Barnum made key contributions as the Bombers successfully defended their lead through the second half.

Division Three remain undefeated after a 30-point win over UNSW-ES at Gore Hill. The game was closely contested in the first half, but a goal on the half-time siren gave the Bombers momentum they were able to build on in the third quarter. Ben Greaves scored four goals in a best on ground performance; while Lachie Voukelatos and Michael Read also featured prominently.

It was no contest for Division Four as they dominated against Pennant Hills from start to finish. The Bombers piled on the scores constantly, holding the Demons scoreless until the final minutes to power to a 114-point win. Jackson Capp scored four; while Cam Jenkins, Sempatike Kwizera and Isaac Heslop were best in a dominant performance.

Division Five North-West were in the early game at Gore Hill, and faced few problems in cruising home to a comfortable win against Pennant Hills. The Bombers won every quarter; with Spencer McIntosh, Sam Gray and Lachlan McIntosh leading the way. It was a comfortable morning for the Bombers as they cruised to a 43-poinr win.

It was also a comfortable performance for Division Five City-South at Mahoney Park. Three goals were on the board in the blink of an eye, and the Breakaways had no way of getting back into the contest as the Bombers raced to a 74-point win. Liam Fardy, Jack Khoury and James Dethridge were the standouts as the Bombers enjoyed the spoils of a win on the road.

Under 19.5s Division One created plenty of chances against Sydney Uni but were unable to capitalise; but the Students were able to make better use of theirs. There was never much in it throughout the day; but despite the Bombers having more scoring shots, the Students took the game by 14 points. Ned Hardman, Charlie Stephens and Lewis Whiley got plenty of the ball, bur it wasn’t our day.

Under 19.5s Division Two were successful in their clash against the Students. Four quick goals in the second quarter set up a match-winning lead; and the Bombers were able to hang on for a 17-point win, despite not scoring a goal in the last quarter. Alex Belousoff, Michael Ridell and James Pocknee were in the thick of the action to propel the Bombers to another win and maintain top spot on the ladder.

WOMENS

Heartbreak for our Premier Division side as they went down by a kick to Sydney Uni at Sydney Uni No 1. The Bombers fell two goals behind early, and despite putting plenty of effort in, were unable to bridge the gap. In the last quarter the Bombers scored the only goal to get back to within a kick; but despite the ball being on the Bombers’ forward line for much of the final few minutes, the Bombers were unable to find the equaliser. Tilly Eder, Amelia Rainbow and Ella Daniel were star performers for the Bombers on a night when they got so close but fell so agonisingly short.

Earlier in the day at Sydney Uni No 1, Division One kept close to the lead but were unable to take the lead. Elle Carroll, Marlee Barnet-Hepples and Hannah Collins kept the work happening as the Bombers continued to press; but the Students were able to prevent the Bombers from getting in front.

Division Two had beaten Randwick City at Pioneers Park earlier in the season, but were unable to replicate the win at Gore Hill. The Saints got out to an early lead and the Bombers were unable to peg them back and were unable to goal in the second half. Bri Gorman, Grace Sachs and Charlotte Kearney kept putting the effort in, but the result didn’t go our way.

It was a tough assignment for Division Three against Sydney Uni. The Bombers kept putting the effort in, but the rewards were not forthcoming on the scoreboard and they were only able to score one goal. Abby Feurtado, Alex Prentice and Kayla Johnston never stopped putting the effort in, but it wasn’t our day.

Better news for Under 20s as they got up in a thriller in the late game at Gore Hill. The lead see-sawed all night, but the Bombers managed to get in front when the final siren sounded to get up by a point. Caitlin Wilson, Heidi Charles and Willow Orsini played key roles as the Bombers powered their way to top of the ladder.
