After a wet week, the sun tentatively emerged from the clouds on Saturday and we played in mainly fine weather. Nothing wrong with the surface at Gore Hill, our away teams had some tricky conditions to deal with at Olds Park. Unfortunately Mahoney Park was closed and Womens Division One was washed out.

12 North Shore teams played this week, with six of them emerging with the chocolates; including both our Premier Division teams.

MENS

Mens Premier Division took on St George at Olds Park and emerged victorious by 57 points. Conditions weren’t easy, but the Bombers took control in the second half with six unanswered goals putting the game out of the Dragons’ reach. Cooper Donald, Tom Drum and Pat Bolger were outstanding as our seniors won their third game on the trot. They will have this week off, but will be well represented in the AFL Sydney Rep team to take on AFL Canberra this week.

Division One also got the job done at Olds Park, scoring an identical score to Premier Division in their 63-point win. James Cubis and Charlie Silvester were in great form in front of goals to each finish with four; while Michael Goode, Adam Bastas and Alex Kourakis were prolific ball-winners all day. Division One remain undefeated, and also have next week off.

It was a tough hit-out for Division Two, taking on Penrith’s seniors. After conceding four goals in the second quarter, it was always going to be hard to come back; but they fought back well to get within two goals midway through the last quarter. In the end they fell 22 points short; with Toby Howard, Seb Krimmer and Jonah Mills being best for the Bombers.

Division Three remains undefeated after getting the job done by 59 points against Pennant Hills at Gore Hill. Sam Walters, James Weiling and Casey McCarthy were standouts as the Bombers took control of the game from the start; aided by some impressive accuracy in front of goals. Another strong performance from our Fourths keeps them top of the ladder.

Division Four are back on the winning list after a 31-point win over Wollondilly in a twilight game at Gore Hill. The Bombers hit the ground running with the first four goals, and the Knights never looked like getting back into the contest. Ed Taffa spearheaded the charge with four goals; while Mitch Hunt, Jack Watkins and Matt Worley were prolific around the ground.

Division five got off to a slow start against Penrith at Gore Hill, conceding four goals in the second quarter to find themselves well down on the scoreboard. They fought back in the second half, but the deficit was too great to overcome and they went down by 16 points. Ben Hayward, Sam Gray and James Nettle kept working hard all day as the Bombers fought back to keep it close.

Under 19.5s Division One got the job done by 16 points against St George at Olds Park. The game was close for most of the day, but a four-goal run in the third quarter was enough to get the Bombers home. Jack Blazey, Sam Clancy and Luka Vozella were influential at the key moments to get the Bombers over the line.

It was a heart-breaker for Under 19.5s Division Two on the Number 2 oval at Olds Park. The lead fluctuated all day, but when the final siren sounded, the Bombers were two points short. Hugo Brasher, James Pocknee and Felix McIntosh had solid games for the Bombers, but it was a frustrating afternoon to get so close but couldn’t pull off the win.

WOMENS

Premier Division had a day to remember at Olds Park when they demolished St George by 138 points. Lauren O’Sullivan booted four goals; while Sophie Kavanagh, Heidi de Saxe and Keira Yerbury were unstoppable around the ground. Eight unanswered goals in the first term set the tone for the day, when the defence standing tall to hold the Dragons to one point for the day.

It wasn’t easy for Division Two, as they took on Penrith’s only team. The effort was there, particularly from Imogen Johnson, Bri Gorman and Izzy Smith. But the rewards were not forthcoming and they were unable to raise a flag from the goal umpires, going down by 56 points.

Division Three once again put up plenty of fight and defended well, but it wasn’t enough to get the points against Wollondilly in the late game at Gore Hill. Uma Van Egmond-Jones, Meg Heslop and Sophie Boot were key contributors for the Bombers; but in the end, it wasn’t enough to get the points.

It wasn’t the result Under 20s were looking for when they went down by 15 points to UNSW-ES in the early game at Gore Hill Oval. They led by three points at half time, but were unable to score a goal in the second half. Lauren Shinfield, Olivia Belger and Tahlia Thompson battled gamely, but it wasn’t our day.
