Back on board after the Easter break, and all 14 of our teams were in action. A mixed bag for our Seniors teams, with Mens recording a 90-point win against East Coast while Womens went down by 17 points. Both are on a 3-1 record so far in 2025 and well placed.

All 14 teams took to the field this weekend, with 8 getting the chocolates, plus Mens Division Four getting a draw on the road. As we head into May, when seasons can be made or broken.

MENS

It was a commanding performance by Premier Division. Off to a solid start and leading by 18 points at the long break, the Bombers took control in the second half to score 11 goals to one and blow the margin out to 90 points. Matt Buskariol scored five goals and Tom Drum four; with Angus Loebel, Max Toohey and Buskariol our best in another convicing Gore Hill performance.

It doesn’t come more dominant than our Division One team’s performance against the newly-promoted Southern Power. Ten unanswered goals in the second term set the tone for the day, as the Bombers went on to threaten to top the double-century, falling just three points short. Tom Gillis scored six goals, Nick Larkey five and James Cubis four; while Michael Goode, Adam Bastas and Ozzie Warmbrunn were prolific contributors around the ground.

Division Two had a tough road trip to Mike Pawley to take on Manly’s reservs. There was only a kick in it at the long break, but we fell behind in the third quarter and went down by 22 points. Harry Boyd, Tyson McCallum and Tom Lewis fought bravely against the odds, but it wasn’t our day.

Division Three got up in a thriller against Macquarie Uni at Mike Kenny Oval. The Bpmbers led at every change, but the Warriors kept coming and in the end our fourths had to defend grimly to hold them out. But they were able to do that and record a four-point win in a low-scoring contest. Patrick Mainsbridge, Cedric Marika and Michael Read played key roles in ensuring the team got the job done.

Division Four were in a see-sawing encounter against Manly at Mike Kenny. The Bombers led at quarter time but fell behind in the second term before fighting back in the second half. The game was up for grabs in the final quarter, and when the siren rang the teams couldn’t be separated. Connor Fahy, Edward Toole and Dylan Horton were best for the Bombers in a thrilling draw.

Division Five North-West kept working hard all day, but went down to Manly to 21 points at Mike Pawley. The Bombers stayed with the Wolves in the first half, but were only able to manage one goal in the second half. Billy Elsum, Rob Black and Ben Hayward put in massive efforts to keep the Bombers in the contest.

Division Five City-South got up by five points in a low-scoring contest against Balmain at Mahoney Park. In reality the Bombers were by far the better side, but some inaccurate finishing kept Balmain in the contest. But in the end the Bombers were able to get over the line; with Zac Warburton, Louis Eabry and JJ Burke playing key roles to get the win.

Under 19.5s Division One had little trouble in getting ahead of East Coast, taking out a sometimes spiteful clash by 63 points at Gore Hill. Billy Sykes led the way up forward with four goals; while Charlie Stephens, Ethan Kingsley and Cooper Hawtin were prolific contributors around the ground as the Bombers put on another strong performance from start to finish.

In the late game at Gore Hill, Under 19.5s Division Two were untroubled in breezing past Camden by 112 points. The second quarter set the tone of a dominant night as the Bombers ran through nine unanswered goals. It was the Sam Jackson show, as he single-handedly took control of the game with a ten-goal haul and was easily best on ground. Luka Vozella and Conall Mollay also played prominent roles in a great night for our young Bombers.

WOMENS

The unbeaten run in Premier Division came to an end at Gore Hill, with our Seniors going down to defending premiers East Coast. The Eagles threatened several times to run away with the contest, but the Bombers pegged them back and there was only a kick in it for the first three quarters. But in the end, despite a valiant fighting effort, the Bombers went down by 17 points. Zoe Hurrell, Sophie Kavanagh and Ella Daniel were tireless warriors for the Bombers.

Division One dominated from start to finish in a one-sided performance against South-West Sydney at Gore Hill. Kayla Villareal booted four goals in a best-on-ground performance while Phoebe Gray and Phillipa Studdert featured prominently as the Bombers ran rampant to power their way to a 131-point win, keeping the Blues scoreless until the dying minutes.

It was a heart-breaker for Division Two in the early game at Gore Hill. Southern Power got a goal up at the long break in a tight, low-scoring contest and maintained that margin in the third quarter. The Bombers got a goal to get within a kick and continued to press until the end; but were unable to find the winning goal. Caitlin Wilson, Bri Gorman and Alana Dalgleish battled gamely against the odds to keep the Bombers in the contest.

Division Three were at Mike Kenny Oval against Pennant Hills. It was a tough afternoon for our fourths, many of them haven’t played much footy and are still learning the game, but they kept fighting all the way and won the last quarter; but ultimately went down by 28 points. Uma van Egmond-Jones, Abby Feurtado and Catherine Munyanish were best for the Bombers.

Under 20s made the trip to Gipps Road for the second time this season, and again took the points against the defending premiers. Getting the early jump with five unanswered goals in the first quarter, it was one-way traffic as they completed a comprehensive 69-point win, Lauren Shinfield, Ava Thomas and Isobel Edmunds led the way in a big win.
