Vale Ray Dignan

As some people associated with North Shore will already know, ex-President And Chair of Selectors, Ray Dignan, passed away recently at the age of 85.

Ray was a hard nosed football person, in the of best traditions, who added considerably to our club during his years of involvement through his commitment and player first approach.

In addition to the contribution he made as President, Ray was part of a group, which also included Grahame Boys, who brought St Kilda and Hawthorn greats Barry Breen and John Hendrie to the club in the 1980’s. Moves that contributed heavily to our 1985 premiership win and which also laid the foundations for later successes.

Ray also had 3 sons who played for North Shore, Philip, Gerard and Anthony, who collectively played in 5 premierships from 1979 through to 1993 –highlighted by Gerard’s Premier Division medals in 1985 and 1991 and Anthony kicking the winning goal after the siren in the 1993 Reserves grand final.

The Dignan’s are one of North Shore’s great families and we would like to pass on to them our gratitude for the wonderful contribution they’ve made and our most sincere condolences for Ray’s passing.
