The penultimate round of the home and away season saw a mixed bag of results.
It wasn’t a great weekend for our Premier Division teams, with both going down to UNSW-ES at Blacktown and being knocked off top spot on the ladder.
Two of our games were called off after rain during the week forced some ground closures. Womens Division One was cancelled for the second week in a row; while Mens Division Five City-South was also canned. Womens Under 20s won without firing a shot when Parramatta forfeited their game. Including the forfeit, six out of 12 teams took the points.
But we remain well placed for the finals. 10 of our teams will be playing finals; while Mens Division Five North-West and Womens Division Two can also make it if they win in the final round next week.

Premier Division’s winning streak came to an end against UNSW-ES at Blacktown. The Bombers fell behind early and the Bulldogs won every quarter; with the Bombers never able to find some momentum and get back into the contest. Goal scorers and best players were not available at the time of writing; but it wasn’t our day. Unfortunately the result sees the Bombers lose top spot on the ladder; and unless an unlikely combination of results happen in the final round; we will have a re-match against the Bulldogs in the Qualifying Final.
Division One remain top of the ladder, doing it in style with a 99-point win over UNSW-ES in the late game at Blacktown. The Bombers got the early jump with six unanswered goals in the first quarter, and kept the momentum going all day. Sam Austin, Luke Fish and Nic Gallu were influential for the Bombers in another impressive display. The minor premiership will come down to the final round and our game against Camden.
Division Two enjoyed a 13-point win over East Coast at Gore Hill. After the Eagles kicked three early goals, the Bombers steadied and worked their way back into the contest, drawing level at half time and taking the lead in the third quarter. Sean Metelovski, Tom Lewis and Jack Harty played key roles in a pleasing Bomber performance.
It was a tough morning for Division Three, as they went down to top side UNSW-ES by 58 points at Blacktown. Quarter by quarter scores, goal-scorers and best players were not available at the time of writing; but it wasn’t our day. The Bombers remain in second place, but in a final four in this division, will need to beat Macquarie Uni this week to retain the double chance.
Division Four suffered heir first loss of the season, going down to Newtown by 31 points in the early game at Gore Hill. The Breakaways got the early jump with five goals to one in the first quarter, and the Bombers never looked like getting back into the contest. Jack Watkins, Tom Gorman and Lachy Ramm kept working hard, but it wasn’t enough to get the points. But despite the loss, the Bombers remain top of the ladder.
It wasn’t the easiest of fixtures for Division Five North-West, travelling to Greygums for the second time this season. Scores were level at quarter time, but the Rams took the lead in the second quarter and the Bombers were never able to make up the deficit, going down by 31 points. Wade Dower, Nick McLachlan and Spencer McIntosh battled gamely, but it was one of those frustrating days when the Bombers fell short. In the last round, we play Macquarie Uni and, with a final four in this division, need a win to make the finals.
Under 19.5s Division One wrapped up the minor premiership in cruise control with a 37-point win over UNSW-ES at Blacktown. There was only 10 points in it at the long break, but the Bombers pulled away in the third term and were never threatened. Sam Jackson spearheaded the charge with a seven goal haul; while Sam Clancy, Harry Layet and Henry Charles were busy around the ground. The Bombers will enjoy a rest in the first week of the finals, going straight through to the Major Semi-Final.
Under 19.5s Division Two are also minor premiers, getting it done by 14 points on a very heavy track at Sydney Uni No 1. Three unanswered goals in the second quarter set up the Bombers’ win, before a slog in the second half in which neither team managed a goal. Alex Belousoff, Jacob Harper and Michael Riddell were outstanding in a well-earned win.

WOMENS
Our winning streak in Womens Premier Division came to an end at Blacktown International Sportspark with a 14-point loss to UNSW-ES. There was only three points in it at the long break, but the Bombers were unable to score a goal in the second half; and although the defence stood resolutely to only concede one second-half goal, we were unable to find the goals to win the game. Kiera Yerbury, Charli Tidemann and Emily Bliss worked hard, but it wasn’t enough to keep the winning streak going. The Bombers are second on the ladder, and will be playing the Qualifying Final in the first week of finals.
A welcome return to the winning list for Division Two as they achieved a 27-point win over Inner West Magpies at Gore Hill. The Bombers kept the Magpies goal-less until the last minute before half time, and by then had built up a handy buffer which the Magpies never looked like overcoming. Issy Smith, Jaime Morelli and Uma van Egmond-Jones were best in a comfortable Bomber win. The win sees the Bombers re-enter the top five, but they will need to beat Manly at Weldon in the last round to make the finals.
Division Three put in a fighting effort against Newtown at Gore Hill, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win and they went down by 17 points. The Bombers kept themselves within striking distance, but weren’t able to find the goals to run down the Breakaways’ lead. Emma Greene, Nell McNeil and Megan Soutter were superb for the Bombers in another fighting display.
