Another sunny, albeit slightly chilly, Saturday saw the season roll along with a full round of footy. Our Premier Division teams were on the road, heading to Bruce Purser Reserve to take on East Coast; with both successfully taking the premiership points back along the M2 to Gore Hill.

All 14 of our teams took the field this week, with nine of them being successful; another big Bomber weekend.

This coming week, our Premier Division teams will have the week off for the Rep games against AFL Tasmania, with both Mens and Womens teams being well represented by North Shore players. While our divisional teams will take the field this week.

Premier Division extended their winning streak to 11 games when they were untroubled in recording a comfortable 54-point win over East Coast at Bruce Purser Reserve. Five unanswered goals in the first quarter ensured that the Bombers would always be comfortably ahead; and the Eagles never looked like getting back into the contest. Max Thomas finishes with four goals; and although best players were not listed on PlayHQ at the time of writing, it was a solid North Shore team effort.

Division One hit the road for a trip to Waratah Oval to take on Southern Power; and emerged victorious with a comfortable 78-point win. A nine goals to two first half set up a comfortable buffer, and the Bombers went on with the job in the second half to record a percentage-boosting victory. Jarvis Hemmings, Nick Robinson and Sam Austin were standout contributors, ensuring the Bombers would remain top of this division.

Division Two hung on in a thriller at Gore Hill to hold out Sydney Uni by two points. The Bombers led at every change, but the Students kept coming and it took some grim defence in the final minutes to hold them out. But in the end, the Bombers did enough to hang on and take the points. Max Berry, Joe Maguire and James Weiling were superb in a tough display of defensive footy which landed the much-needed competition points.

Division Three had several key outs, making it a difficult assignment against Macquarie Uni’s seniors at Gore Hill. After falling behind on the scoreboard early, the Bombers kept working hard but were never able to make up the lost ground on the scoreboard; going down by 27 points. William Baily, James Gibson and Casey McCarthy battled tirelessly against the odds; but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to get back on the winning list.

It was a top of the table clash in Division Four; but in the end the Bombers prevailed. The lead see-sawed during the first half, but the Bombers made the decisive move in the premiership quarter with four unanswered goals; setting up a 19-point win. Alex de Laine, Isaac Heslop and Mackinley Mitchell were outstanding on another great day for our fifths team, maintaining top spot on the ladder.

It was a close contest for Division Five North-West against Macquarie Uni at Gore Hill; but they were able to take the match by seven points. With Ben Lamb, Spencer McIntosh and Lachlan McIntosh in control around the ground, the Bombers led at every change; but had some nervous moments in the last quarter when the Warriors got to within a kick. But the Bombers were able to hang on through the final term for a well-earned win.

On a weekend where numbers were tight, Division Five City-South had a tough away trip to Waratah Oval against Southern Power. They battled hard, but little was going their way and the game resulted in a 97-point loss. Harry Sandford, Alex Heintze and Alex Freilinger never gave up; but it was a tough assignment.

Under 19.5s Division One barely raised a sweat in recording an easy 28-point win over East Coast at Bruce Purser. Three goals to one in the first quarter was enough to ensure the Bombers always had the lead; and there was no way the Bombers were allowing the Eagles to get back into the contest. Cooper Hawtin, Jasper Sinclair and Blake Rundell were in good form as the Bombers comfortably maintained top spot on the ladder.

Despite having several players backing up from the Division One game earlier in the day, it was no contest for Under 19.5s Division Two at Charles McLaughlin Oval. The Eagles were unable to score until after half time, and by then the Bombers already had ten goals on the board. The Bombers went on with the job in the second half to record a convincing 123-point win. Kai Higer and Billy Sykes each landed five goals; while Hugo Brasher, Jensen Brownlaw and Ryan Hunter were in fine form around the ground.

WOMENS

A strong Premier Division win keeps North Shore in second place, and well placed to land the double chance in the finals. At Bruce Purser against three-time premiers East Coast; the Bombers held the Eagles to a single goal to romp to a 42-point win. Adrienne Keeffe chipped in with four goals, while Lucy Yates and Heidi de Saxe picked up myriad possessions. If was another strong performance by an in-form Bombers side building up nicely towards the upcoming finals.

It wasn’t a great day for Division One at Trumper Park, as they went down to UTS by 18 points. The Bats scored the only three goals in the first quarter, and the Bombers were never able to bridge the deficit; despite a determined charge during the third quarter when they landed three quick goals. But in the end, it was too much ground to make up; despite the determined efforts of Hannah Collins, Lucy Forrest and Lili Kablau.

Division Two was struck by key unavailabilites, and a tough matchup against Macquarie Uni’s only team. In the end, it was too big an ask; with several players backing up from Division Three and fatigue setting in. The Bombers ran out four quarters, with Emma Green, Lauren Shinfield and Viv Leong battling hard against the odds. But it just wasn’t our day.

It was a courageous fighting effort by Division Three, but unfortunately they were unable to replicate last week’s heroics, going down to Hawkesbury by 34 points. The effort was there, but scoring options were hard to find; and they were unable to goal until the final minute of the game. Uma Van Egmond-Jones, Megan Soutter and Maddi Fogarty battled tirelessly, but it wasn’t enough to get the points this week.

Under 20s had to dig deep against Sydney Un in the late game at Gore Hill, but was able to get the point. Tne Bombers led all day against Sydney Uni, leading by 23 points at the long break. The Students kept coming, and by the last quarter it was going to be a thriller. But the Bombers managed to find a win to win. Heidi Charles, Ava Thomas and Jessica Loughhead were outstanding for the Bombers in pulling off a remarkable win.
